World Bank Releases Study on Service Sector Liberalization
The World Bank recently released a new study on the liberalization of trade and investment in services. Entitled "International Trade and Services: New Trends and Opportunities for Developing Countries," this study assesses how policy makers can bolster their service industries by leveraging the changes prompted by technological advancements. It also provides policy recommendations including the reduction of barriers to services trade across all sectors and the promotion of health- and environment-related development policies that should be developed in parallel with a burgeoning services market. Strong Slate of Government, Business Leaders to Address Global Services Summit 2010
A strong line-up of world leaders will address the Global Services Summit 2010: Breaking the Deadlock on Services Trade and Investment, on September 22, 2010, in Washington, DC. The growing list includes U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, Mexican Secretary of the Economy Bruno Ferrari, New Zealand Trade Minister Tim Groser, Malaysian Trade Minister Mustapa Mohamed, Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma, and World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy. In addition, U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee Chairman Sandy Levin and Ranking Member Dave Camp will offer Congressional perspectives on trade policy.
